Sustainable Society recognizes that affecting positive Global ch ange is a team effort and that many hard working charitable organizations have expended a great deal of collective energy in making the world a better place by pursuing special causes and missions. Sustainable Society is exceedingly grateful to the following six charitable organizations for their hard work and support:
Packard Children’s Hospital In 1986 David and Lucile Packard donated $40 million to establish a children’s hospital. In 1991, Packard Children’s Hospital was founded and the hospital has become one of the nation’s most prominent children’s hospitals. Packard Children’s Hospital is ranked #10 in pediatric specialties and has also won a national award for Excellence in Pediatric Patient Care.
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has been hard at work since 1949 diligently working toward curing myeloma, lymphoma and leukemia. LLS is the world's largest health organization dedicated to researching blood cancer. LLS has maintained a continued history of research innovation and a commitment to growth in the 21st century. Additionally, LLS provides patient assistance programs in order to facilitate treatment of patients between hospitals. Habitat for Humanity Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit Christian ministry that was founded on the premise that everyone should have access to adequate and affordable housing. Habitat houses are simply designed and affordable for low-income families around the globe. Habitat strives to build sustainable, energy-efficient housing. Former President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn have graciously donated a week of heir time each year since 1984 to raise awareness for Habitat’s noble mission.
PBS & KQED PBS and its member stations are part of America’s largest public media enterprise. PBS has been America’s largest and most prominent state for the arts and a trusted window of information to the world. Additionally, PBS’s educational programming assists in preparing children for success in school and in the world in a method of delivery that children easily understand.
KQED serves Northern California with its community focused and supported alternative to standard commercial media. KQED strives to provide citizens with a level of knowledge that can be utilized to make informed decision and further community dialogue. Additionally, KQED is a portal to the arts for people of all ages.
Red Cross The organization has been the leader in emergency response efforts ever since its inception in 1881. The organization is a member of a global effort that offers humanitarian care to victims of national disasters and wars. The American Red Cross also provides community services for the needy, support for members of the military and their families, and necessary blood and blood products in times of need. UNICEF UNICEF is global force for change, dedicated to building a world where children’s rights are realized. UNICEF exercises its global prominence to influence leaders and decision makers worldwide. UNICEFs core belief is that caring for the needs of all children worldwide is the cornerstone of collective human progress. UNICEF partners with leaders worldwide to overcome obstacles such as discrimination, disease, violence, and poverty.
